Summer Workshop Series 2026
Economics of Social Media

Eligibility: Open to students ages 11-18; no prior economics knowledge needed

Completion Bonus: Attendees will be granted access to the Girls for Econ Opportunities Masterdoc, a spreadsheet compiled by the Girls for Econ team with 50 of the best economics/finance/business competitions, programs, and internships for students.
Description: In this workshop, we will explore the economics behind social media and how the apps we use every day make money. We will look at different ways platforms earn revenue, such as advertising, subscriptions, and influencer marketing, while also learning why so many social media apps are free to use. We will also discuss how social media influences businesses, creators, and consumers. By the end of the workshop, you'll have a better understanding of the economics behind the platforms you use every day.
The Economics of Going Green: How Businesses and Consumers Shape Sustainability

Description: This workshop is a collab between Girls for Econ and EcoBiz, a youth-led nonprofit that focuses on sustainable business. We will explore how young people can be environmentally conscious in their consumption and personal entrepreneurial ventures. We will look at how business practices and production impact the environment and how governments shape economic policy to help regulate this impact. We will discuss what to be aware of in your own small businesses and the businesses you purchase from. By the end of this workshop, you'll have a deeper understanding of why sustainability standards are so important and the economics behind why they work to increase the welfare of all.
